Abstract
diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in the world, and treatment for diabetic patients with COVID-19 is challenging. Therefore, the use of telemedicine has been recommended as a safe and cost-effective approach to provide continuous healthcare services and prevent patients from being exposed to COVID-19. Despite the benefits of telemedicine, the use of this technology has faced several challenges, such as limited familiarity of patients and their caregivers with smart technologies, data security issues, difficulties in decision-making, and an increase in workload for healthcare providers. In this chapter, initially the main concepts related to diabetes, the COVID-19 pandemic, and telemedicine technology will be reviewed. Then, the use of telemedicine technology for patients with diabetes, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic will be discussed. Other sections of this chapter will present the challenges of using telemedicine technology during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for patients with diabetes.
